Welcome
to our Grade A Raw Goat Milk Dairy! Located in Central
Texas 35 miles southwest of Fort Worth, we are happy to
provide you with the best-tasting freshest milk around.
Don't settle for anything less than Grade A from a state
certified facility. Goat milk is very delicate and our
sanitary handling and rapid cooling assure you of the
best product for your money. Most stories of bad tasting
milk or "goaty" flavor result from poor handling. Goat
milk should taste sweet and clean.
At Star of Texas
Creamery, our goats all have a name and come when called.
They are special to us and if they are not healthy and
happy, they won't be able to share their wonderful milk
with us. Our herd is small but productive. The goats graze
freely on ten acres of brush, trees and native grasses.
The grazing is supplemented with whole grains and molasses,
sunflower seeds, oats, locally grown broadleaf hay or
alfalfa, wheat germ oil, diatomaceous earth and loose
minerals. We only use manure and natural materials for
fertilizer and pesticides are never used . In the near
future we will be seeking a certified organic pasture
rating on our land. Hormones are never used on our animals.
Antibiotics are only used on a seriously ill goat and
of course any sick goat is removed from the milking line.
Yearly vaccinations are given for the Clostridial diseases
such as blackleg, gangrene udder, tetanus and enterotoxemia
which are common in our area and are rapidly deadly to
goats. We do not wish to put any of our does at risk.
Our small enterprise
is family-owned and run primarily by me, Jenn Hughes.
Your milk is milked by me, filtered by me, bottled and
capped by yours truly. So you can be sure I have intimate
knowledge of my product and you can know that your milk
is not exposed to numerous and perhaps careless people.
I have a degree in Microbiology from the University of
Texas at Arlington and currently stay at our home taking
care of my three kids and lots of four legged ones! My
wonderful husband John designed and built my very efficient
dairy facility and helps with the dairy when he is not
working his other job. He and I both grew up in the country
(he on a working 300 acre farm) and have always wanted
that down to earth lifestyle for our family. Simple pleasures
are the best!
Our farm is state
inspected every four weeks and milk samples are taken
for bacterial testing. As per state law, milk is available
for pickup at our farm only. We sell our milk in 1 gallon,
½ gallon and quarts (special orders only). It is $9.00
per gallon, or $5.00 per half gallon. (Many customers
prefer the half gallons for convenience for storage in
freezers and ice chests) quarts are $2.75 and are only
available per customer request. PLEASE CALL in advance
for milk availability and pick up times as we do not yet
have regular business hours. Feel free to call or email
with any questions and for directions to our farm. .
We
remind you our milk is raw (not pasteurized) and contains
active enzymes and live flora (e.g. lactobacillus acidophilus
and others) . Breast milk is best for babies and we advise
consulting a pediatrician before feeding this product
to babies under 12 months of age. We DO NOT ADVISE anyone
with a severely depressed immune system due to chemotherapy,
AIDS, or Immunosuppressive corticosteriodal drugs to consume
any raw product as even normally harmless bacteria can
be harmful to these people.
We also have kids
available for sale throughout the year on a limited basis
for dairy, show or meat purposes---Take care---Jenn Hughes
